21 Questions...

Updated: Nov 28, 2018

So for a bit of fun and as a ‘get to know me a bit better’ exercise, I thought I’d answer a few random questions, well 21 to be exact. I ‘ve tried to answer them as honestly as possible, so I hope you enjoy reading!

1. Are you named after anyone?

Apparently so, the name Gemma was taken from a television show that my mum used to watch, although I don’t know which one and I was given the middle name Kathryn after my mums childhood best friend.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Funnily enough just a few days ago. I was given the news that my department at work is being relocated 30 miles down the road which means that I am now in the difficult position of deciding whether to accept the move and commute every day or whether to look for a job closer to home. I absolutely love my job so this is a really difficult decision and yes I became quite upset when the announcement was made and afterwards, along with a lot of other emotions mixed in for good measure.

3. If you were another person, would you be friends with yourself?

I actually think that I would be! I am quite a considerate person, I am bloody hilarious and my friends mean the world to me! I also think I’m quite a good gift giver, so yes I could totally see me being friends with me, especially around Christmas time :)

4. What is your eye colour?

I have hazel coloured eyes, although I’m convinced that the colour changes now and then to be more green or more brown. If I wear copper or pink eyeshadow, the green tones really pop!

5. Favourite smells?

Ooh I love the smell of clean washing, Christmas scented candles, Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou eau de parfum, the smell of a coffee shop even though I don’t like coffee, but one of my most favourite scents is the one you get when you first open a tub of Quality Street.

6. What’s the furthest you’ve been from home?

OK, so I’ll admit I’m not very good with Geography, so in this instance, I’ll name the places that I’ve been to which took the longest time on a plane, which were Florida, Dominican Republic and Cuba.

7. What’s your Zodiac sign and do you believe in it?

I’m a Libra, but I’m not a massive believer in the Zodiac. I find it hard to believe that you can simply categorise every single person in to 12 different ‘signs’. We are all so different, with our own flaws, neuroses and quirky character traits which I believe are down to a mixture of genetics, upbringing and life experiences as opposed to a star sign.

8. What are your hobbies?

Ooh OK, so I would love to say photography, but I’m nowhere close to being a professional, so let’s just say that I like taking photographs and editing them afterwards. I love reading and have recently got back into setting aside some time for myself to unwind with a good book. I also really enjoy Yoga classes.

9. Do you have any siblings?

Yes, my family is quite complicated and I may write a blog post about this someday soon, so I have a brother who I grew up with, a brother and a sister who I met just over 13 years ago and apparently I have brothers out there somewhere who may not even know that I exist. Crazy huh? It’ll all make sense when I explain, I promise.

10. How tall are you?

I’m 5 foot 5 inches

11. What is the least favourite thing about yourself?

OK so there’s a few things, I hate how I can lose interest in something and give up on it, I hate that I’m such a bad timekeeper and I’m always late, I hate how I put everything off til the last minute and I’m a massive procrastinator, I hate how I can never stick to a diet and actually lose some weight, I hate that I lack confidence and self esteem, I hate that I'm a huge self saboteur and I hate that my brain never switches off, like ever. I’m really impatient, I analyse absolutely everything, I overthink absolutely everything and I worry all the bloody time. It's great!!

12. What have you named your children?

I have a little boy called Oliver Joe and a little girl called Mollie Elizabeth. I always loved the name Oliver and this was always number one on our list of names for a boy. I also loved Joe or Joseph (hence the middle name) and I can’t really remember now what other names we had lined up. If he had been a girl, there is a chance he may have been called Audra, Auryn, Sophie or Olivia and as he was due on Valentines Day, I had toyed with the middle names Romeo for a boy or Valentina for a girl if he had arrived on his due date, which he didn’t in the end.

I can’t recall what names I had lined up for Mollie if she had been a boy, but I always loved the name Mollie. I really liked Nora but unfortunately nobody else did, one of the reasons I liked this was because my nanna was called Rona Maisie (another name I adore) so it was like I was in a way, naming my little girl after my nanna. Elizabeth is a name which is quite special to me and also runs in my family, so that seemed the perfect choice for a middle name.

13. How would you describe your fashion sense?

Haha OK, so some days I would describe it as ‘frumpy mum that just threw on whatever was on the floor’ or ‘wannabe student’. Others I would describe it as ‘made an effort, certainly not gonna be featured in Vogue anytime soon but scrubs up OK’.

My day to day attire usually consists of jeans and a jumper/tee or checked shirt. I love a good cardi, I do wear leggings (I know and I’m sorry! Or am I?) I live in my Converse, love a Breton striped top, leopard print and anything in a soft pinky colour or a light grey.

On a night out, I’m all for leather look leggings with ankle boots, or midi length dresses. As I’ve got older, my love for colour and prints has grown and I experiment a lot more now.

14. What phone do you have?

I have the iphone XS Max, I’m an Apple advocate and am on my 4th iphone now. I have a Macbook Pro and an ipad and love how they all sync together.

15. Tell us your bad habits

Erm, well I do pick my nose occasionally, only cause I hate there being anything up there but I don’t usually do this in public so don't worry. I don’t always tidy up after myself and I can be quite messy. I’m also always late for everything and can be quite forgetful.

16. 3 things that upset you?

The people that I love being hurt or upset

Being let down, cancelled on and generally not appreciated

The feeling of being left out or ignored

17. 3 things that make you happy?

Days out with my family

Nights in with my friends

A bag of Cadburys Giant Buttons

18. How is your relationship with your parents?

Another toughie, with my dad I suppose you’d say we were estranged after my parents divorce. I love my mum but rarely get to see her as she lives just over an hour away now, but we do speak on the phone as much as we can. I won’t go into much more detail here as it all becomes quite complicated and I’ll save this for another blog post.

19. What’s your longest relationship so far?

That would be with Dean, my husband. We met and first got together when we were 17, so this year we celebrated 20 years together.

20. What’s on your mind?

Everything, all the effin time!!

21. What are the simple things in life that you enjoy?

  • I love being at home, indoors, in the warmth whilst it’s raining outside

  • I love the sound of the washing machine, I find it really calming and comforting

  • I love to laugh, I love a private joke, or a bit of banter and I don’t mind being silly
